Ahmedi's IGA Molong is back up and ready to serve flood-affected local community with a little help from BCG

To say that 2022 has been challenging is an understatement.

While we’re still dealing with the ongoing pandemic, things continue to be even more challenging as communities across the country are affected by torrential rains, powerful storms, and raging floods. A lot of people have had to leave their homes, not knowing what they’d find when it’s safe to go home. With many shops and supermarkets damaged and destroyed, access to essential needs and services has become difficult.

As we have seen before, these trying times bring out the very best in all of us – we see neighbours rallying together, helping each other, sharing what they have, and doing what they can to help one another cope a day at a time. Much of Australia’s south-east has been impacted by the floods and one of the hardest hit has been the town of Molong, NSW. Homes and livelihoods have been damaged and destroyed during the onslaught of the disaster, but one of the most pressing concerns is limited access to basic needs.

With its owner’s determination to get back on its feet and supply food and other essential goods to the local community, Ahmedi’s IGA Molong reached out to BCG to get their store operational. Within 48 hours from when the roads were deemed accessible, our team went to the site to install and supply the store’s entire front end, and a week after, the local supermarket was able to re-open and supply much needed grocery items.

We are privileged to have received such a heartfelt message from IGA Molong’s owner, Shakeel Ahmedi:

"I don’t have the words to thank you for all the service and help in getting us up and running again. We will open today… and the team at Brian Cummins Group made it happen. All the checkouts and other equipment supplied is of the highest quality. Once again thank you, as always."

With BCG’s tandem checkout, express checkout, cigarette cabinet units, and produce bins installed, IGA Molong is operational once again. While it may take a while for the supermarket and the town, as a whole, to fully recover from the floods, having access to food and other basic necessities we hope, is one less thing for Molong locals to worry about, in large part due to the care and compassion from Shakeel and his team as part of this wonderful community.

BCG are founded on Australian values and those values include our strong community spirit. Where we can help, BCG is sure to go above and beyond to help make things a little easier and a little better, not just for our customers but the greater community. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to those that have been and continue to be greatly impacted by the flood. As another challenging year draws to a close, we are one with everyone in hoping 2023 is a better year for all of us.
